Bioassays: Dosimetry by Bioelimination

In 2007, in keeping with our company’s commitment to innovation, the radiochemistry laboratory established a bio-analysis laboratory for analysing bodily radioactivity in urine and faeces samples.
In 2010, the Nuclear Security Council authorised Geocisa to run the “personal internal dosimetry service” at Tecnatom, where our radiochemistry laboratory was in charge of analysing readings for ‘indirect bodily radioactivity’ by bio-elimination. The studies conducted in this laboratory are:

  • Determining americium, uranium isotopes, curium and plutonium in urine samples.
  • Determining strontium and tritium in urine samples.
  • Determining creatinine in urine samples.
  • Determining americium, uranium isotopes, curium and plutonium in faeces.

Since 2011, it has operated with weekly measurements of samples and has been involved with the ‘International Reference Inter-comparison Exercise”, organised each year by PROCORAD, with highly satisfactory results.
