In 1975, GEOCISA initiated its activities in the field of pavement inspection, as the Spanish Ministry of Public Works as well as motorway concessionaires became aware of the importance of knowing the actual condition of the roadways so as to guarantee their conservation. To appropriately carry out highway and road network maintenance, conservation and management work, it is necessary to know the system’s geometric, structural and functional characteristics. The pavement inspection and road asset inventory aimed at collecting the information necessary on the road to make it possible to diagnose the condition of the roadways and to obtain the data necessary for improving highway safety. GEOCISA currently has a fleet of vehicles equipped with the technology to collect all this information. Different software packages have likewise been progressively developed for the fast, simple management of this data on the part of the road owner.
